DMZ Tunnel #3
At the first stop. (See previous story). We did not leave the bus. We were instructed beforehand to bring passports. Enroute we paid our tarrif and wrote our names and passport numbers on paper, but no country name! Then we drove to a check point and a soldier counted the names on the sheet and the people on the bus. There was one more people than names. So we drove back to the first stop. Angel called out the names and we stood up. The missing name was my seat mate, a young pharmasist from Malaysia. Then we drove back to the check point and had a recount. We had a match. Then we drove back to the first stop and disembarked. That's when I shot the first images. Then we drove to the tunnel entrance. No photos allowed in the tunnel. Why? who knows. Hundreds of people walk the tunnel every day. It's certainly no secret.
Click on the images to enlarge them. Photos were not allowed inside the building that housed this diarama. I shot when no one was looking. If you enlarge these you may see a small blue light. That is the tunnel entrance.
It's a long walk down to the tunnel level. Hardhats were provided. The tunnel is 2 meters but much of it has scaffolding to drape plastic to stop dripping. I bumped my hat about a hundred times.
Four tunnels were found between 1974 and 1978. No one knows if there are more.
