The atomic bomb
It,s called the hypocenter because the bomb was detonated at 500 meters above ground. These photos are taken through glass. It,s a dug up cross section of earth to show that the bomb deposited about 4 feet of dirt and junk at the blast site.
Nagasaki was a secondary target choice. The primary target was aborted because of visability problems due to smoke from recent bombing activity.
Nagaski was chosen because of the many manufacturing facilities and the military thought it would offer some interesting test results.
