Series # 60 My Son (Me Sun)
Halloh. Near the city of Hoi An is My Son. These Indian influenced temple ruins are ancient remains of the Champa kingdom. Most of these temples were built and dedicated to Cham kings associated with divinities, particularly Shiva, who was regarded as the founder and protector of Champas dynasties. They were continously occupied from the 4th to the 13th centuries. While not as impressive as those of Angkor in Cambodia or Ayu-thaya in Thailand, they are a site to behold.
The Chams were not originally Hindu but became 'Indianised' by commercial contact. Their culture was absorbed by Vietnam in the 17th century.
