On New Years Day, Pon invited me to go to Temple for good luck. Throughout Asia it's a common practice to buy small birds in tiny bamboo cages and release them for good luck. At this temple also available, were eels, turtles, and snails to release in the river Ping. Pon Bought a turtle and a bucket of snails. When the turtle was freed it swam about two feet and stopped. I think that turtle has been captured and released many times.
In 2006 there was an enormous outdoor garden display in Chiang Mai to honor the Kings 50th year as monarch. I had never been.
